History of Molenan Cottages

The 'Gatelodge’ was built in the late 1800’s by the present owner’s great grandfather. For most of that time it has been occupied by people connected directly to the estate. In 2011 it was extended and extensively renovated to modern day standards while retaining many of the traditional aspects of its original character / purpose.

The 'Landstewards House' dates back to the early 1800's. It was originally two houses to provide accommodation for the farm manager and a farm labourer. The present owners extensively renovated the property in 1990 and turned it into one house. The result is a very comfortable, practical house with larger than average rooms. A large conservatory looking out over the grounds of Molenan House was added in 1999.

Molenan Farm

The farm extends to 400 acres, most of which is used for arable production. Wheat, Conservation Oats, Barley, Oil Seed Rape and Potatoes are all grown. The straw is used for bedding and feeding livestock locally over the winter. Beef cattle are also reared on the farm with the longer term plan to move to an all purebred closed herd. The farm plays close attention to good environmental practices and adheres to the required EU environmental schemes as well as taking part in various voluntary quality assurance schemes. This involves managing parts of the farm purely for the benefit of wildlife and over the years trees and hedges have been planted and areas sown out for biodiversity. The result is an attractive, environmentally friendly farm with a wide diversity of wildlife. There are a number of peaceful walks around the farm and tours of the farm can be provided by prior arrangement.
